 | The uniform of the Malaysian Sikh Band consists of the combination between both Scottish and Sikh culture. It is a balance of both the Scottish traditional attire and the Sikh traditional attire.
The uniform consists of the Sikh turban, a white ‘bana’, a white ‘pyjama’, ‘kirpan’, ‘gurgabi’ shoes, a yellow ‘kamar casa’, ‘kalgi’ and a yellow ‘petti’. The turban is worn by all Sikhs to cover their long hair. The color of our turban is white. ‘Bana’ is the traditional uniform for the Sikhs and it is worn together with the ‘pyjama’. The ‘kirpan’ or also known as the ceremonial dagger is part of the Sikh uniform. The ‘kalgi’ and the ‘petti’ are worn around our turban and it signifies our tenth guru, Guru Gobind Singh.
The tartan, sash, broach worn by us signifies the Scottish traditional attire. The tartan that we wear is the Royal Stewart tartan and our broach is used to hold the tartan. The color of our sash is blue with gold linings.
